171 - French birdcage

This is a pattern of a grandiose birdcage of French origin in victorian style. The proportions of the original project were impressive, around 180 cm (71 inches) tall without the spire. During the restoration I have adapted it so that it can be made in different sizes without compromising the final quality. You will have to calculate the largest scale you can work with your tools before starting. The original birdcage had two doors but this is of course easy to modify. When properly completed the result is difficult to describe with words. I can imagine it decorating a large victorian greenhouse.

The pattern is printed to make the birdcage with 1/8 inches wood or with 3 mm wood, but of course it can be resized at will. This table gives the dimensions of the birdcage depending on the wood thickness you use:

Height (inc. spire) Diameter (total) Diameter (cage)
1/8 in. wood 40 in. 20 in. 13.1 in.
3/16 in. wood 60 in. 30 in. 20 in.
1/4 in. wood 80 in. 40 in. 26.2 in.
3 mm wood 97 cm 40.4 cm 26.6 cm
4 mm wood 129 cm 54 cm 35.5 cm
5 mm wood 162 cm 67.3 cm 44.3 cm
6 mm wood 194 cm 80.8 cm 53.2 cm
8 mm wood 258 cm 108 cm 71 cm
