This is a box
restored from a very old French design, one of the oldest scroll saw
designs I have ever found, from around 1870. I have kept the flowers
motif but I have changed the shape of the borders that was a bit too
simple. The flowers are arranged in a quite natural way, which gives
the box an informal aspect. The fretwork contains roses,
carnations and daisies. The sides of the box can be made either in
one piece, covering the interior with linen, or in two pieces, the
external one fretworked and the interior one acting as a contrasting
wood. The box is completed with two hinges.
The box is designed to be made preferably with 1/4 and 1/8 inches
wood or with 6 and 3 mm wood, but of course it can be resized at
will to fit any wood thickness. The following table gives the dimensions of the box depending on the wood thickness you use:
